When most people think of a city break in France, they think of Paris, the stylish French capital and ‘City of Love’. Paris is perfect for those in search of a romantic break, with wonderful boutique hotels, superb cuisine and charming settings at every turn. The city also, however, has plenty to offer for those looking to enjoy a cultural weekend away, with internationally recognised museums and galleries spread across the city. The Louvre is Paris’ most famous museum, earning the title of the most-visited art museum in the world, with its breathtaking range of unique collections. The city’s Cathedrals, the Notre Dame de Paris and Basilique du Sacre-Coeur are two of the city’s other most famous attractions, and of course the iconic Eiffel Tower is a must for everyone to see, with its unrivalled views of the city and beyond.

History, culture and delightful charm

Just slightly inland of the northern coast, Lille is another great option for a getaway in France. Direct access by Eurostar makes it one of the country’s most convenient destinations from the UK, and the relaxed atmosphere of Lille will have you feeling like you’ve been away for weeks. Alternatively, for a longer city break you can head further south to Lyon; a great choice for history lovers, with its impressive UNESCO World Heritage listing and many interesting sights. The Dordogne region in south-west France is also a popular place to visit. Bordeaux is home to an attractive UNESCO World Heritage Old Town, and is internationally renowned for its excellent wines, making it the perfect choice for a city break to France.

Explore the coastal regions, great weather

Heading to the coastal in southern France involves a slightly longer flight from the UK, but those willing to make the extra journey will be rewarded with a selection of enticing cities, and great weather. Marseille, on the Mediterranean Coast, is ideal for shopping, whilst Cannes on the nearby Cote d’Azur is well-known for its annual international film festival, attracting a regular influx of visitors. Alternatively, Perpignan, situated near the Spanish border, enjoys a superb Mediterranean climate, and boasts excellent seafood and evening entertainment on offer throughout the year.
