A guide to Italy
It’s hard to know where to start when planning a short trip to Italy, as there are so many fantastic options to choose from. The Italian capital Rome is one the most visited cities in Europe, with ancient history written all over its architecture in spectacular style, and iconic, buildings such as the Pantheon and the Colosseum drawing visitors from across the globe. Alongside its unique history, the city is also home to a wealth of cultural venues and places of interest such as the National Museum of Rome and the Borghese Gallery, as well as the Vatican Museums in Vatican City. In addition, the vibrant contemporary culture and lively music scene make for an exciting and dynamic time away.
Shopping and eating in the north
Northern Italy is home to several of the country’s most popular destinations and the perfect choice for short trips and weekends away. Milan is well-known for its cosmopolitan atmosphere and designer fashion industry, making it an ideal shopping destination, whilst the iconic city of Venice is a great choice for those in search of a historical city break brimming with art and culture, in a truly picturesque setting. Florence, situated in the heart of Tuscany, is perfect for a culinary trip, where you can sample some of the finest of the region’s food and wine, and you'll also have the chance to take in the famous leaning Tower of Pisa.
Relaxed sunshine in the south
Southern Italy offers a more relaxed pace of life and the benefit of the best of the Italian climate. Taranto and Naples provide a laid-back setting for a trip to the coast, with access to some of the nearby stretches of stunning beach and shoreline. Further south is the idyllic Amalfi Coast, where you may start to feel more like you’re on an island getaway than a fun-packed city break, and you can take in alluring cities and towns such as Sorrento and Positano, with their classic beauty and charm.
