Las Vegas Getting Around

Las Vegas for most visitors revolves around the strip, a four mile long boulevard of dazzling neon lights and over the top entertainment. Part of the joy of a Las Vegas city break is to soak up its energy and explore on foot. It is perfectly safe to do so as it is a true 24 hour city. There are however plenty of other less strenuous options for getting around Las Vegas, a must during the blistering daytime heat. Downtown Las Vegas is well served by public buses with stops outside most major hotels and casinos along the strip. There is also a host of private bus operators offering frequent services to and from McCarran International Airport and most city hotels.

 

 

There is an efficient trolley bus service in operation between the Stratosphere Tower and the south strip area which runs at a frequency of every 20 minutes. There are numerous stops at attractions en route and it runs until 2am daily. A similar route is followed by the famous Las Vegas monorail which provides modern comfort and a great bird's eye views of vibrant street life. Many of the larger resorts even have monorail stations inside their own lobbies and trains run until at least 3am and 5am at weekends. This is by far the most convenient and fun way of getting around Las Vegas. Taxi cabs are thick and fast throughout the city and can be hailed almost everywhere. Take it a step further and cruise the Strip by stretch limo which is surprisingly affordable to all.

 

There are dozens of resorts that provide free shuttle buses to and from downtown and the Strip. Getting around Las Vegas this way is speedy and convenient and it won't cost you a cent. Average frequencies are 30 minutes. Most of them run until at least 12 midnight. Flagship casinos such as the Mandalay Bay, Bellagio and the Monte Carlo have clubbed together with their very own free vintage tram services along the Strip which are accessible to non guests too. These character pre war trams are a charming way to see some of the sights and provide an intriguing contrast in this brash and modern city. Car hire agents are available absolutely everywhere however for those content to party and gamble within the city limits there really is no need for the extra expense or hassle.
