Getting around Ljubljana
Ljubljana is a small city. Most of the tourist interest of Ljubljana is easily appreciated on foot. The majority of weekend visitors will not need public transport. Taxis are useful at night and river trips are a popular summer excursion. The Ljubljana Card allows unlimited use of public transport plus free or reduced entry to Ljubljana attractions.

Getting from Ljubljana Airport
Ljubljana Airport is 16 miles from the city. Buses depart every hour from Ljubljana airport for the city centre. The journey takes 45 minutes. A private bus service is a little quicker.

Walking
City breaks in Ljubljana are best appreciated on foot. The city is small and compact. Large parts of the old city are pedestrianised and are a delight for relaxed sightseeing and romantic pavement cafes. Stroll both banks of the river and explore all of the charming squares in the Old Town

Bicycle Hire
Cycling is popular and pleasant in Ljubljana. Look out for free bicycles provided by the tourist office. Bicycle points include the train station, Trg Republike and Prešernov trg. Ljubljana tourist office also organises bicycle tours. Bicycles can also be rented. Ljubljana has plenty of bike lanes and special traffic lights for cyclists.

Glass-roofed boats on the River Ljubljanica. Also romantic night cruises. Boat trips, which depart from the old town, often travel as far as the Trnovo neighbourhood.

Buses
Ljubljana buses are regular and efficient. Buses run very frequently between 0500 and 2230. Over 20 Ljubljana bus routes serve the city centre and the suburbs. There is a limited night bus service. Pay the driver with the correct fare. Tickets are cheaper if tokens (žetoni) are bought in advance from newspaper kiosks. Day and week passes are available. Children under 4 travel free.

Taxis
Ljubljana taxis can be hailed on the street or at taxi ranks. Taxis can be booked by phone for important journeys. Ljubljana taxis are metered and very economical.
