Malaga Getting Around
Getting around Malaga
The old part of the city is very pleasant for relaxed walking and sightseeing. Cheap and efficient Malaga public transport is useful for visiting the beach suburbs.
Getting from Malaga Airport
Malaga Airport is just 8 miles from the city centre. The number 19 bus is one way of getting to Malaga Airport. Buses run from around 0600 until about 23.00. A train also runs from Malaga Airport to the city-centre Centro-Alameda station every 30 minutes. A taxi will take about 20 minutes.
Walking
Most Malaga weekend break visitors will be happy to explore the city on foot. Although Malaga is a large city, the vast majority of sights are in the old part of the city and within easy walking distance of each other. In common with southern Spanish cities like Seville, Almeria, Murcia and Valencia, nightlife is largely a question of following the crowds and hopping from bar to bar. Join the locals on their typical early evening promenade along palm-lined Paseo del Parque to Malagueta beach.
Bus
Malaga buses serve the entire city centre area and run along the seafront to the beach suburbs. Malaga buses run from 06:45 to 23:00. Pay the flat fare to the driver. There is a limited night bus service. Cheaper 10 journey tickets are available. Buses from the main bus station serve outlying mountain villages and the Costa del Sol beach resorts.
Taxi
Malaga taxis are easy to find and can be hailed on the street. Small surcharges for luggage, Sundays, holidays, night times etc. Taxis are metered. A small tip is appreciated but not obligatory. Taking cheap taxis is a part of everyday life in Spanish cities like Madrid, Bilbao and Barcelona. Malaga is no exception.
Malaga Sightseeing Tours
Malaga sightseeing tours on double decker buses are a good way of getting to grips with the city and rapidly taking in the top Malaga sights. You can get on and off the bus as you wish for a 24 period. Tours usually include the port, the bullring, the cathedral, Gibralfaro Castle, the Santuario de la Victoria and the Plaza Merced.
Horse-drawn carriage
A romantic way to tour the city. As in Seville, negotiate the price before setting off.
Train
Suburban trains run to Malaga Airport and along the coast to the west towards Fuengirola.
