Murcia Getting Around
Getting around Murcia
Getting around Murcia is pleasant and straightforward. Most Murcia city break visitors will be happy to walk around the majority of the city. The major sights and shopping and nightlife areas are all within easy walking distance of each other. If you are content to enjoy the city without visiting regional towns and the beaches you will not need to use public transport or hire a car.
Getting to Murcia Airport
Murcia Airport San Javier is 29 miles from the city centre. A limited bus service runs from the airport to the city centre. The journey takes 45 minutes. Another possibility is a 2 km taxi trip to the bus stop in Santiago de la Ribera from where buses run to Murcia. With limited public transport to Murcia airport, both taxis and car hire are popular options. Murcia airport is ideally placed for Cartagena, Torrevieja and the beaches of La Manga and the Mar Menor.
Walking
Walking is by far the best way of getting around Murcia. Join the locals for the early evening paseo. Murcia is a classic Spanish city for easy bar hopping. There is pleasant walking on the Paseo del Malecón near the River Segura.
Taxi
In common with Spanish cities like Madrid, Valencia and Seville, taxis in Murcia are plentiful, efficient and economical. Murcia taxis are metered. Surcharges for holidays, night times, luggage etc. A small tip is appreciated but not expected.
Bus & Train
There is very little need for tourists to use city buses. Regional buses and trains run to outlying villages, cities like Cartegena, and Murcia beaches on the Mar Menor and la Manga.
Car hire
While a car is something of a burden in the city, it will enable trips to the region’s varied villages, sights and beaches.
