Nice Getting Around

A pedestrian friendly city
Although the attractive beaches of Nice seem to stretch as far as the eye can see in either direction, the city itself is surprisingly compact. Points of interest, hotels, amenities and entertainment are all located centrally within a relatively small area. This makes a Nice city break perfect for exploring on foot particularly with much of the old town thankfully free of traffic. Nice operates an efficient bus service which links the city centre with numerous outlying towns and villages and there are frequent services along the busy coastal routes to several nearby resorts.

Explore the region by car
Taxis are a cheap and convenient way to traverse the city and are used extensively by locals and tourists especially during a Nice city break night out. Taxi stands are found throughout the city and are strategically located outside many larger hotels, museums and tourist attractions. A long weekend in Nice can be enjoyed to the full without the need of a car but for more extensive exploration of the region there are many car rental offices offering a range of models. Driving along the scenic coastal roads is particularly memorable offering truly spectacular scenery, but note however that parking can be difficult in the Cote d'Azur resorts during the busy summer months.

Enjoy a day trip by train
The airport is conveniently close to the centre of Nice, just 4 miles to the west and is serviced by very frequent express buses and taxis. A short break in Nice should explore glamorous Cannes or Monte Carlo which can be reached by train from the mainline rail station in the heart of Nice and is just a 30 minute journey.  There is also a scenic tourist train which will delight children that runs from the seafront and through the pretty old town offering panoramic views of Nice and the Baie des Anges.
