Pisa Tourist Attractions
The Leaning Tower of Pisa represents one of the most iconic images of Italy and is the main reason why Pisa has become so popular as a city break destination. Constructed in the 12th century it has been fascinating visitors for centuries and is open from 10am to 5pm daily. Tickets cost €15. The Duomo cathedral was also constructed in the same era and serves as one of the most spectacular examples of Italian gothic and Moorish design. It features amazing geometric mosaics and marbling and houses some historically important treasures and artefacts.

Pisa Opening Hours
Shops close between 1pm and about 4.30pm Monday-Saturday remaining open until around 9pm. Once a month most shops open on a Sunday which also includes an open air street market selling antiques, art and fresh produce. Some large stores and supermarkets may open each and every Sunday usually until around 4pm.
Pisa Food & Drink
Pisa cuisine offers lots of variety and taste and its most celebrated ingredients include Monte Pisano olive oil, Pecorino cheese and Parco di Migliarino lamb. Tuscan bread is an essential part of any Pisa meal and is used in a host of appetizers and canapés including chicken liver and truffles. Game dishes are popular and feature everything from hare, pheasant, deer and wild boar prepared in various ways. Local wines make the ideal accompaniment to some of these dishes with Chianti delle Colline Pisane, Rosso Toscano and Montescudaio among the most celebrated.
Tipping & Etiquette in Pisa
Service is normally included in restaurant bills along with a cover charge which costs from 1 to 3 Euros, depending on the restaurant. Most people leave an additional tip of around 10% of the final bill but this is not compulsory. Tipping taxi drivers is less common and is again at your discretion with one or two Euros sufficient and will be very much appreciated.

Disabled Access in pisa
Pisa city centre has relatively flat terrain although there are many arduous cobbled streets to negotiate. The centre is only practical for small minibus transport or taxis and this should be borne in mind if leaving the city on a day excursion by coach as arrangements will need to be made to get you to and from your city centre hotel. Some of the most popular attractions do have disabled facilities such as Cattedrale di Santa Maria and Museo Nazionale di Palazzo Reale which enjoy wide entrance doors, ramps and induction audio loops.
