The quickest way to reach the city from the airport is by the MRT subway system - a state of the art light rail network that covers the entire island. Within the city centre, you are no more than a 15 minute walk from an underground station which are all simply colour coded and well signposted. Single journey tickets, day passes and weekend saver tickets all offer remarkable value for money and are available from stations and kiosks citywide.

A large number of bus operators have services throughout Singapore and frequency on major routes is excellent. The main tourist areas of Chinatown, Little India and Orchard Road are all very well served with a frequency of every couple of minutes through the day. Some of the more popular attractions are outside the downtown area and are only served by bus routes. These include Sentosa and Singapore Zoo which have special shuttle bus services. You can even take direct buses across the causeway to bustling Johor Bahru in Malaysia which is less than an hour away and makes for a fascinating day trip.

Getting around Singapore by boat is a possibility that can be used for sightseeing or for a day trip excursion. It offers a charming way to view some of its attractions along a vibrant waterfront district or visit one of the many tropical Indonesian islands to the South for a day. Bintan Island is easily reached in a little over 30 minutes by hydrofoil and is a world away from 21st century Singapore.
