Singapore Things To Do

Shopping
Virtually all visitors to Singapore will get that irresistible urge to go shopping at some point. The epicentre of this retail frenzy is the magnificent Orchard Road, a vibrant thoroughfare of dazzling department stores and swanky malls as far as the eye can see. Chic fashions, stylish home wares and state of the art electronics offer excellent bargains and there is a fabulous array of al fresco dining and drinking.

Sentosa Island
Sentosa is Singapore's very own Disney inspired theme park which offers a thrilling time for youngsters. It has its own tropical beaches, golf, funfair rides, interactive museums and a traditional Malay craft market. There are an abundance of family friendly events and any visit should also include a hair-raising return to the mainland by cable car for very spectacular city and ocean views.

Chinatown
Take a rickshaw through the teeming streets of Singapore's Chinatown - a fascinating mix of old and new. Chic oriental bars and cafes sit alongside historic temples, colourful pagodas and traditional shop houses. The district is punctuated by the sounds of exotic songbirds, Buddhist chants and noisy street vendors and is definitely a must for all visitors.

Colonial Singapore
The city still has many reminders from its old colonial past and visitors will be surprised to see familiar architecture reminiscent of Victorian England. The most famous example is the opulent Raffles Hotel, one of Singapore's most popular attractions. It has a fascinating museum and simply oozes history and tradition. There are many country style mansion houses and striking Catholic and Anglican cathedrals which contrast sharply with a skyline of modern skyscrapers.

Food
Singapore is a real melting pot of cultures and offers an equally diverse local cuisine of exotic Indian, Chinese and Malay flavours. The most vibrant places to eat are the vast hawker food centres which are found on almost every street. Here you can enjoy everything from satays, Indian murtabak pastries and oriental seafood along with delicious tropical fruit drinks. Dining al fresco Singapore style is a real eye opener and a fascinating experience.

Singapore Zoo
A Singapore short break should certainly include a visit to its world class zoo, set in lush landscaped jungle enclosures. A large population of orangutans and komodo dragons are the major highlights and there are many daily animal shows for all the family to enjoy. Even better still, there is a night safari which offers a tour exploring the nocturnal habits of lions, tigers, rhinos and more under special lighting and stays open until midnight.
