Toronto City Breaks

A guide to Toronto

Toronto is Canada's largest city and provides a compelling variety of big city attractions that will appeal to lovers of art and culture, as well as revellers looking for fun and nonstop entertainment. Its contrasting urban landscape features immense skyscrapers juxtaposed between quaint Victorian terraces, and the bustling ethnic enclaves of colourful Chinatown and Little India. History buffs will be more than satisfied in Toronto, as the city has some fascinating buildings to be explored.

A world class multicultural city

Quaint Victorian mansions offer a scene of timeless elegance in the heart of the city, and close by lies the austere grandeur of City Hall, as well as the post modern Eaton Centre shopping mall and the shamelessly extravagant Casa Luna mansion house. Toronto can also boast some of the finest art and archaeological collections in North America at the amazing Royal Ontario Museum, with over 40 galleries of priceless exhibits. A trip up to the summit of the towering CN Tower is a must, where you can fully appreciate the scale and diversity of this remarkable city, and at over 1,800 feet high, stunning views are guaranteed of an eclectic skyline and stunning lakeland countryside.

Shopping, beaches and Niagara Falls

Toronto is quite the shopping mecca that has more than enough temptations for every budget. You can shop till you drop in the chic boutiques of Bloor Street and Yorkville, or visit bohemian Kensington Market for ethnic knick knacks and trendy one-off fashions. You can also take things easy with a relaxing day at Centre Island; a series of tranquil car free islets located a short ferry hop away, where basking on quiet beaches, sailing or explore over 500 acres of parkland on foot or by cycle is the order of the day. Venturing a little further afield offers up the unmissable attraction of Niagara Falls, which is likely to be the highlight of many longer breaks here. En route you will pass the charming Kavarthas countryside of rural villages filled with historic country inns, sumptuous spa resorts and meadows, which are well worth a day's exploration in their own right.
