Valencia Getting Around

Getting around Valencia

It is perfectly feasible to spend a weekend here without needing to take a bus or the metro. The city is eminently walkable, with the occasional taxi at night, or to avoid the heat of the day. Should you need it, Valencia has an excellent public transport system, with efficient buses and metro system, and tickets can be bought at kiosks and tobacco shops.

Getting from Valencia airport

Valencia Airport is about 5 miles from the centre. Metro line 5 connects the airport with the train station, the port, and the beach, and the Aerobus departs every 15 minutes. There are a couple of city centre stops before reaching the main train station, and the 150 bus takes longer and goes to the bus station. Taxis are reliable and metered, and there is a small surcharge for airport trips. The journey into the city centre takes about 15 minutes.

Walking

Most of the major sights are easily reached on foot. The beautiful El Carmen neighbourhood can only really be appreciated by walking, and crossing the city centre will not take much more than 40 minutes.

Buses

Buses are cheap and efficient. A bonobus is valid for 10 trips, cheaper than individual tickets, and is available from kiosks, tobacco shops and metro stations. Buses are useful for getting Ciències, Llac Albufera, the port and the beaches.

Metro

The Metro has 5 lines and is still expanding. Line 5 is ideal for the beach and the airport.

Tram

Line 4 of the metro is a tram that connects the north of the city with Malvarrosa beach. Buy a ticket from the machine before getting on. The nearest city station is Pont de Fusta, and it's a great fun way to get to Valencia beach in around 10 minutes.

Taxis

Taxis are easy to find and far cheaper than in the UK, and are useful for crossing the city, visiting the beach or returning to your hotel after a long night out.

Bicycle

Cycling is quite popular. The city is flat, has plenty of cycle lanes, and bicycles are easy to hire.

Sightseeing tours

Valencia’s wonderful sunny climate ensures open-top bus tours are popular, and sightseeing tours leave from Plaza de la Reina. You can get on and off the bus as you wish throughout the day.
