Warsaw Tourist Attractions
The troubled history of Warsaw during the Second World War occupation can be witnessed all over the city and provides both poignancy and inspiration for visitors. Many sights are free to view such as The Path of Remembrance and see a large number of visitors of all ages daily. The Royal Castle in the Old Town is a great day out for history buffs and includes some great collections of art. It costs PLN10 and is worthy of a whole day's exploration.
Warsaw Opening Hours
Shopping hours are usually from 9am until 7pm on weekdays and until 2pm on Saturdays. The exception to this is in the more popular tourist areas of the city which will see longer hours of operation and some even open on Sunday mornings. Some smaller independent stores and boutiques often close for lunchtime and many do not accept credit and debit card payment especially for low value purchases.
Warsaw Food & Drink
Perhaps the most popular dish in Warsaw is Bigos - a hearty stew of cabbage, potatoes, cuts of pork, pureed tomato, mushrooms and honey. Best eaten with rye bread and a shot or two of ice cold vodka, it can be found in restaurants all across the city. Warsaw cuisine comprises a number of delicious and totally unique savoury snacks that are definitely worth a taste. Z Miesam is a very crispy snack filled with beef or pork and served with cranberry sauce. Another variation is Z Serem which uses sweet cottage cheese and raisins in its filling and is versatile enough for a snack or as a dessert especially if accompanied with fresh cream on the side. Diners will find a good selection of international cuisine across the city that should satisfy every taste during a city break in Warsaw.
Tipping & Etiquette In Warsaw
The custom of tipping in Warsaw is widespread although not obligatory. There is no hard and fast rule to amounts that should be given and locals and tourists alike tend to round up bills to around 5%. Some of the more expensive eateries may already include a service charge on restaurant bills. Some small change should be considered for taxi drivers and hotel porters and room service staff.

Disabled Access In Warsaw
Since the mid 1990's, all new buildings must incorporate easy access for wheelchair users and many older developments are in the middle of refurbishment to include lifts, ramps and wide entrances. Hoteliers have made a big effort to upgrade lobbys, facilities and rooms to accommodate the disabled and Warsaw now has a good selection of wheelchair friendly hotel accommodation. Around two thirds of the local bus system provides step free access and wheelchair space onboard which includes most of the routes attractive to visiting tourists.
