Almeria Tourist Attractions
The spectacular Cathedral of Almeira is located in the heart of the old quarter of the city and is its most commanding landmark. It has a fortress-like appearance and displays intricate gothic style design in its exterior and is equally ornate inside with many marble statues and stained glass. Guided tours are available and cost €4. For adventurous types, take an excursion to the astounding national park of Cabo de Gato - a rugged wilderness of immense beauty that rivals anywhere in Europe. Here you can indulge in mountain sports, snorkelling and scuba diving, bird watching and biking. It incorporates a wealth of biodiversity and really does have something for everyone. Regular excursions are arranged from the centre of Almeria.

Almeria Opening Hours
Shops usually open at 10am and close at 2pm for an afternoon siesta before reopening at 5pm until 8pm. Supermarkets and department stores usually stay open all day, often until 9 or 10pm. The open air market is open earlier from 8am until around 2pm. Banks are open from 9am - 2pm Monday to Saturday. There are a limited number of shops open on Sundays with shorter opening hours mainly in the central tourist area.
Tipping & Etiquette in Almeria
Expect to pay around 5-10% in bars and cafes where a service charge is not already included on a bill. Most larger establishments already add this charge and no further tipping is required. As a general rule it is polite to tip taxi drivers around 5% of the fare and a few coins for hotel porters and valet parking will be much appreciated.
Almeria Food & Drink
The Almerían diet is both healthy and inventive and the best introduction to its abundant flavours is to order a range of tapas to try. These include Migas, fried bread with garlic and spicy sausagemeat and Gachas, which is a hot and spicy clam stew. Paella is of course a mainstay of most menus and typically features chicken, rabbit or seafood as its base ingredient. Almerian desserts are highly praised and delicious. Sample Roscos de Anis - sweet spiral pastries made with anise or Soplillos almond buns.
