Almeria Getting Around
Getting around Almeria
Most Almeria city break visitors will be happy to explore the city on foot. All the major sights are within easy walking distance of each other. The Old Town is manageably compact. Almeria buses run to coastal resorts. A longer stay might benefit from a hired car.
Getting to Almeria Airport
Almeria airport is just 6 miles from the city. Regular buses link Almeria airport with the city centre. A taxi to the city is not expensive.
Walking
In summer try to do your sightseeing before the heat of the afternoon. Join the locals in their relaxed early evening paseo promenade in Almeria’s shopping streets and parks, and along the seafront. In common with cities like Murcia and Malaga, nightlife is largely a question of strolling from bar to bar in a compact central area.
Taxi
In common with Spanish cities like Barcelona, Palma and Bilbao, taxis in Almeria are easy to find and economical. Small surcharges for Sundays, night times, luggage etc. Almeria taxis are metered. A small tip is appreciated.
Bus
Almeria buses cover the entire city and connect some of the outlying villages and beaches. Popular beach resorts near Almeria include Roquetas de Mar, Aguadulce, Mojácar and Carboneras. Regional buses run along the coast in both directions, towards Motril to the east and to Mojacar to the west. Buses also run inland to Granada.
Train
A train connect Almeria with Granada via Guadix.
Car Hire
Longer Almeria city breaks might find a car useful for visiting beaches, the Cabo de Gata National Park and to explore the weird desert landscape of the interior.
