Bergerac Opening Hours
Shopping hours in Bergerac are less flexible than larger French cities and visitors should expect trading from 10am - 5.30pm with a few businesses staying open slightly later. Many close at lunchtime and have early closing, usually at midday on Saturday. Virtually all stores, large and small are closed on Sundays although the central covered market is open from 10am until 5pm.

Tipping & Etiquette in Bergerac
There is likely to be a 10% service charge added to all restaurant bills so any further tipping is entirely discretionary. Small cafes and bars may not include this so again a gratuity equivalent to 10% would be deemed sufficient. Taxi journeys should be rounded up to the next couple of Euros and small change for chambermaids and hotel porters will be gratefully received.

Bergerac Food & Drink
Bergerac regional cuisine is known for many delicacies which are highly prized throughout France and is characterized by a plethora of wildfowl and pork dishes. Confit de Canard and Enchaud slow roasted pork with wild mushrooms and garlic potatoes are popular meals on many restaurant menus. Perigord truffles are a delicacy not to be missed during a stay in Bergerac and fresh farmed trout is always delicious with the signature crème fraiche and walnut sauce. Bergerac red wines such as Red Cote de Bergerac or Pecharmant are ideal matches for red meat, game and many of the terrific chocolate desserts found here.

Disabled Access in Bergerac

Although Bergerac is a relatively flat town, it does have many uneven pavements and old cobblestone streets making it hard going for wheelchair users and very little local transport is accessible for disabled travellers. In spite of their age and preserved layout, there are several old buildings that have some ramp and street level access and there are tours and activities which are tailored to the disabled visitor. These include special fishing and canoeing itineraries along the Dordogne and spacious pavement cafes suitable for wheelchairs are plentiful especially in the old town.
