Ghent Getting Around
Good Public Transport
Getting around Ghent can be very easy due to the excellent public transport system. Buses and trams serve both the inner city and outskirts. Fortunately, an all day pass is available for all forms of travel.
Walking
Ghent is largely pedestrianised making it easy to negotiate on foot. Taxis however, are readily available from ranks throughout the city centre.
Cycling
One of the best ways to see Ghent on a city break is by bicycle. Cycle lanes are common in throughout Belgium and renting a bike is no problem. Try renting, then parking in any of the many bike parks dotted around the city centre.
Pedi-cabs
Although these electric boats operate in summer only, why not try going green by catching an pedi-cab along the river.
Horse-drawn carriage
In summer, it is easy to hire a horse-drawn carriage for a scenic tour from Saint-Bavo Square. This offers a relaxing and cheap way to see the sights on a short break to Ghent.
Rail
Ghent is well connected by rail to Brussels and Paris. A high-speed train, the Thalys, connects Ghent with Paris and leaves from Gent-Sint-Pieters station.
Car
Hiring a car is a good option, as by road Ghent has excellent connections to Bruges, Antwerp, Brussels and Lille.
