Palma Getting Around

Getting around Palma
Palma is a reasonably compact city. Most Palma sights and attractions are within easy walking distance of each other. Most short breaks to Palma will centre on the very compact Barri Gotic Old Town.

Getting to/from Palma airport
Majorca airport, Son Sant Joan Airport, is just 5 miles from Palma. Buses to Palma city centre run regularly from outside Arrivals. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Taxis are available 24 hours a day. A taxi will take 15 minutes.

Walking
Walking in Palma de Mallorca is a delight. Palma has several areas that repay leisurely exploration. First and foremost is the beautifully atmospheric Barri Gotic. Other rewarding areas include the harbour, the promenade and the marina. Several companies organise themed walking tours focusing on Palma by night, the sea, the Jewish Quarter, Modernist architecture etc.

Bus
Palma buses are well-organised, efficient and cheap. Buses are useful for the airport and the beaches. Bus stops have details of the route. You can download a route map from the internet. Palma buses run until about 23.00. Palma night buses are useful for late-night clubbers. A 10-journey Bonobus is available from kiosks and tobacconists.

Palma sightseeing tours
Open-top buses make the most of Palma’s sunny climate. Palma sightseeing tours are a good way of seeing the major sights quickly. You can get on and off the bus throughout the day. The bus typically visits Pueblo Español, Castell de Bellver, the port and the shopping centres.

Taxi
As elsewhere in Spain, taxis are an economical way across town. Palm taxis are metered.

Bicycle
Cycling is quite popular in Palma. There are several places to hire bicycles.

Train
Longer Palma city breaks should consider taking the spectacular train from Palma into the mountains. The trip to Soller on the north-west coast takes just 55 minutes. Trains also run inland to Inca in just 35 minutes.

Boat trips
A variety of refreshing Palma boat trips are available from Palma harbour.
