Split Tourist Attractions
The Cathedral of St. Domnius and Diocletian's Palace are the most endearing attractions in central Split and form the centrepiece of the city's UNESCO world heritage site. Dating from the 3rd century AD, the state of preservation is astounding and are some of the finest examples anywhere of neo-classical architecture. They contain an amazing collection of art treasures, documents and artefacts. Incredibly popular with visitors, the Cathedral is open to the public daily from 8am-8pm and costs 5kn.

Food & Drink in Split
The cuisine of Split has long been influenced by its Italian ancestry and relies heavily on fresh fish and seafood for its most renowned dishes. These include black risotto and squid and Brodetto - fish stewed in tomato sauce and polenta. Meat is also an important part of the Split diet with smoked Dalmatian ham a mainstay of many menus. Lamb is also popular which can be either boiled or baked and served with gnocchi. Desserts are a simple affair mainly consisting of dried figs and raisins, almonds, honey and eggs.

Split Tipping & Etiquette
The practice of tipping for services, especially in restaurants is becoming more commonplace and it is usual to leave a tip equivalent to 10% for a satisfactory meal and service. For bars and small cafes it is sufficient to leave any change from a bill as a gratuity and again any reward should reflect your experience. Taxi drivers and hotel staff should also be rewarded for any excellent service.
