Split Getting Around
Getting from Split airport…
Split Kaštela/Resnik Airport serves Split and Kaštela in Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia. It is an important hub for Croatia Airlines offering cheap flights to many European cities such as; London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Paris. The airport is situated 16 miles west of the city centre.
Buses
The public transport system in Split is limited to buses but the system is extensive, running from around 5am to nearly midnight. A frequent service runs on the major bus lines; 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 17 and 21. The main station for all local buses is across from the National Theatre at Trznica. Bus tickets cost 9KN for a journey in the central zone and 11KN to reach outside the centre. Buy the tickets from a kiosk (tisak) or on the bus.
Walking
Much of the town centre is pedestrianised making walking around the city hassle-free.
Taxis
Taxis can be ordered from your hotel, hailed in the street or picked up from the airport. Split is a hilly city so if your driver appears to be going around in circles, he may not be ripping you off!
Split Suburban Railway
The Split Suburban Railway currently has one line – serving 7 stations, running from Split-Harbour to Kaštel Stari – running from the Split city harbour to Kaštel Stari, and is expected to get a second track and be fully electrified by 2008. The line passes two tunnels –within which metro-like stations will be opened to serve the city centre – in the city centre of Split. The line is 17.8 km long.
Sea
The Split passenger seaport, Jadrolinija, is the third busiest in the Mediterranean, with daily coastal routes to Rijeka, Dubrovnik and Ancona in Italy. Most of the central Dalmatian islands – including Brac, Hvar and Šolta, as well as the more distant Vis, Korcula and Lastovo – are only reachable via the Split harbour (with Jadrolinija and Split Tours ferries).
