Split City Breaks
A guide to Split
Over 1,700 years old, Split cannot be accused of being too modern. The oldest habitation along the coast and one of Croatia's finest cities, you won't discover many better examples of the wonderful history of the region. Terracotta roofs, marble statues and a host of magical architecture makes the city stand out as a unique destination. More modern buildings have sprouted up in recent years, as the city has become an administrative centre for Croatia and some large businesses
Experience the magnificent Dalmatian coastline
You can walk along the stunning coastline with its evergreen trees, rocky beaches and see some of the mansions that have popped up over the centuries along the coast. Or, if you prefer to be a little closer to the action, visit buildings like the Croatian National Theatre, with its bold yellow exterior. Try a visit to the Archaeological Museum to understand how far back the roots of this city go; or even the Croatian Maritime Museum for a sense of how the country defended itself from on-coming invaders. More modern activities such as shopping in the boutique, high-fashion shops, or sampling the great cocktails at the many city centre bars will keep the adrenaline flowing whilst here.
Great mix of old and new
However, the mix of new and old means you get the vibrancy of a young population mixing with the tradition and old culture of the past, and all adding to the potent and exciting mix of the city. With a great blend of modern and traditional accommodation available, you can experience something of this city no matter what your budget. Budget hotels with an emphasis on simplicity are available, as is full service five star accommodation. The airport is just a short drive from the city and is serviced by most low cost carriers, enabling you to keep the cost down.
