Tallinn Opening Hours
Shop opening hours are generally from 10am - 7pm and most close earlier on Saturdays. With the exception of some department stores and shopping malls, shops are closed all day Sundays and public holidays. Banking hours are 9am until 4pm Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings and post offices operate very similar hours.

Tipping & Etiquette In Tallinn
Traditionally, tipping has not been common practice but is becoming the norm as Tallinn receives ever increasing numbers of foreign visitors. Generally 5-10% of the bill would be enough for a pleasant meal and service. Some of the more expensive restaurants do however include service on bills. Taxi journeys should be rounded up to the next one or two Krooni which will be very appreciated.

Tallinn Food & Drink
Estonian cuisine is very similar to that of Finland and its traditional Nordic style meals consist of ample portions of fresh game, meat, fish and green vegetables. Seafood is prevalent in Tallinn restaurants where dishes of salted Baltic herring, fresh pike sautéed in butter and whitefish are cheap and popular. Meat and dumpling soup and potato salad with red beets make tasty additions to any main course and should be eaten with one of the numerous local breads such as plaited sweet bread or rye. Round off a hearty evening of local food with a traditional dessert of Kefir jelly with gooseberries or curd pie.

When visiting older historic buildings in Tallin, patience and preparation is required although there is usually plenty of customer service staff to assist where needed. There is a special taxi service for disabled people in Tallinn which can be booked through most hotels and a high percentage of public buses have low floors and space for wheelchairs.
