Tallinn City Breaks
A guide to Tallinn
Break free from weekends in the usual European destinations by heading to Tallinn, in Estonia. Here, you'll discover a young city with so much to offer, that fitting it in to one weekend will be a challenge, but a challenge well worth taking. This is a city on the edge of the divide between East and West, and is popular with young people who come to sample its vibrant nightlife and stylish culture. Russian, Scandinavian and other European mixes identify this as a cultural capital, and the city was proud to win the European Capital of Culture in 2011, a resounding indication of its firm emergence on the map.
A vibrant and young city
Visitors can take in the wonderful Tallinn Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its 15th century buildings, terracotta roofs, spectacular market square and quaint cobbled streets. Walking along what remains of the city wall is a great way to see the changes the city has been through over the years, and a tour of the gothic St. Olav's Church allows you to experience the charm that once bestowed all the buildings in Tallinn. Connoisseurs of modern design need not be disappointed, as a number of exciting new buildings and bars are home to the stylish, young, jet-set of Tallinn.
Break free from tradition
There is a wide variety of accommodation on offer in this unique city, from old boutique hotels to more modern budget hotels available. Many low cost carriers fly to Tallinn, so fares are affordable, and you'll find taking advantage of the best deals means going slightly out of season. With the city changing faces between winter and summer, a popular time to come is during the spring and autumn months, when it is much quieter.
