Turin Things To Do

Mole Antonelliana
Construction of this popular Turin landmark began in 1863 and is named after its architect, Alessandro Antonelli. The final height was raised to 113 metres, over 47 metres higher than the dome in the original design.

Palatine Towers
Porte Palatine is an ancient Roman-medieval building and one of the four Roman city gates of Turin, giving access from north to the cardus maximus, the second main street of the Roman town. The towers are located near the city cathedral and Palazzo Reale.

Turin Cathedral
Built between 1491 and 1498, the cathedral is home to the Turin Shroud – believed by many to be the cloth that covered Jesus in his grave – and is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. A visit to this historic site is an essential activity in any Turin city break.

Royal Palace of Turin
Palazzo Reale was the royal palace of the House of Savoy, built for the Madama Reale Christine Marie of France in the seventeenth century.

Museo Egizio
The museum specialises in Egyptian archaeology and anthropology, and is home to what is regarded as the ninth largest collection of Egyptian antiquities in the world.

The Lingotto complex
The former Fiat factory, transformed by Renzo Piano, is a ten-minute bus ride south of the city centre. It houses the Agnelli family’s impressive modern art collection, a vast conference, exhibition and shopping centre, cinemas and an auditorium, plus two luxury hotels.

Shopping
The stylish via Roma is lined with shops ranging from global brand names to old family businesses. For wines from both Piedmont and further afield, visit Parola; the shop will ship purchases abroad. Turin is home to Europe’s largest open-air market, known locally as Porta Palazzo (piazza della Repubblica, open Monday to Friday mornings and all day Saturday), while the Balon flea market is held on Saturdays in and around Borgo Dora.
