Munich Tourist Attractions
Munich has some great markets. The Viktualienmarkt (for local speciality sausages, cheeses, herbs and fruit) is open between 10am to 6pm weekdays and 10am to 3pm on Saturday and is closed on Sunday. The central square of Marienplatz is taken over during the weeks of December for the Christmas market, Chistkindlmarkt. Stalls sell festive goodies, spiced mulled wine and traditional snacks. Read more information on things to do in Munich.

Munich Opening Hours
During the week shops generally open from 9.30 and close at 6 or 6.30pm, closing at 1pm Saturday. Larger shops tend to open earlier and close later, till 8pm Monday-Friday and from 9am to 4pm on Saturday. Shops are closed on Sundays. Munich’s many beer gardens close at 11pm. Restaurants are open from 6pm until midnight, some later.

Munich Food And Drink
True Bavarian cuisine is best experienced in the traditional pubs and local brewery-run restaurants. Two popular traditional dishes are Schweinsbraten (roast pork served with potato and sauerkraut) and Renke (whitefish caught from the mountain lakes). Giant pretzels are sprinkled with rock salt (Brez'n) and, like the rest of Germany, there is a wide variety of sausages (wurst) to try. Weissbeer (wheat beer) is the perfect accompaniment to a Weisswurst sausage with mustard and pretzels. Beer gardens here are famously imitated throughout the world. Visit the Hofbrauhause and Chinesischer Turm beer garden, located in the famous English Garden. The cavernous beer halls are enjoyed all year round, especially at the annual Oktoberfest. Munich is home to the Paulaner, Spaten and Löwenbräu breweries, as well as many good quality smaller breweries. Perfect for beer lovers!

Tipping And Etiquette In Munich
If you see a sign in a pub, which reads Stammtisch this means the table is reserved for their regular patrons. To drink alcohol in the city centre of Marienplatz and the pedestrian zone of Munich is forbidden by law, other than when in a restaurant or beer garden. Service is included in restaurant bills but it is customary to round up the bill and give a tip of up to 10%.
