Enchanting historic German attractions
Centuries of Bavarian history can be explored with a stroll amongst the city's beautifully ornate gothic and medieval architecture. Must-see sights include the commanding Rathaus Town Hall with its soaring towers and the charming 14th century Isar Gate. The medieval St. Peters parish church is also definitely worth a visit, and features stunning interior ornamentation and a small collection of priceless old masters. Perhaps the most breathtaking sight lies a short journey away from the city perched high in the Southern Alps. The extravagant fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein is a remarkable attraction, that really has to be seen to be believed. Its stunning mountain top location and colourful history surrounding its construction has lent it an air of mystery and is an extremely popular excursion.
Spectacular Oktoberfest, and a great nightlife scene
Marienplatz Square is at the heart of bustling Munich life, and provides the ideal spot to soak up the vibrant Bavarian way of life. While away an afternoon with an alfresco beer and bratwurst, or browse the atmospheric street markets of Viktualienmarkt and Elisabetmarkt. The city is surprisingly rich in high brow art and entertainment, and offers some of the most acclaimed theatres and concert halls in the country. Take in a night of opera or classical music at the ornate Muffathalle, or frequent one of the dozens of intimate cabaret clubs and fringe theatres. A night of energetic fun and revelry is sure to be had in Munich's exuberant beer cellars which are certainly not for the faint hearted.
