Oktoberfest – An unrivalled atmosphere

Munich Oktoberfest – An event full of colour and excitement
Festivities are kicked off each year at the Oktoberfest with a colourful and noisy procession showcasing intricate traditional costumes and the intoxicating sounds of local brass bands. All around are found marquees filled with the aroma of freshly cooked meat and fish and traditional stalls selling Bavarian handicrafts, antiques and tempting local snacks. An enormous fairground known as the “Theresienwiese” comprises thrilling rollercoaster rides, a myriad of kids’ amusements and a dizzying array of street theatre and music.
 
Oktoberfest Beer Festival – Merriment and fun on a grand scale
Each of the 14 main beer tents offers a unique and individual atmosphere that should have something for everyone to enjoy. Raucous sing-along’s and brass bands, traditional Bavarian dancing, tents devoted to the consumption of wine and champagne and even a tent for the stylish crowd complete with designer beers and gourmet cuisine. Every possible convenience can be found inside these ’beer palaces’ which can accommodate up to an incredible 10,000 people. Although incredibly popular at this time, Munich is a perfect short break destination and any Oktoberfest visit should include a tour of city sights such as the elegant Nymphenburg and Residenz Palaces and the beautifully preserved St Peters Church.
