Verona Tourist Attractions
The Arena di Verona is a truly remarkable monument that certainly deserves exploring. It is the most well preserved Roman amphitheatre in the world and second only in size to the Coliseum in Rome. Sited right in the centre of the city, it was designed to accommodate over 20,000 people and is in remarkable condition, despite extensive damage during a 12th century earthquake. Summer opera performances and other concerts take place regularly and offer a memorable evening of entertainment. The Arena di Verona costs €3 entrance and is open until 7.30pm on non performance days.

Verona Opening Hours
Local hours of business are generally from 9am-1pm and 4pm-7pm daily for most high street shops. Many retailers do not open on Mondays until midday and some of the smaller stores may even be closed Wednesday afternoons. City centre shops are also open on the first Sunday in the month from 10am-4pm.

Veona Food & Drink
Veronese cuisine has many unique elements and produces some of the most imaginative food in Italy. Try the signature dish of Tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms and black truffles, found on some of the more upmarket menus or veal and ginger with leeks and fried sage. Perhaps the most traditional of dishes is tastasal - a spiced pork mix and available in many cafes and restaurants. Desserts are just as important to the Veronese and two of the most well known include Sanvigilini with short crust pastry and raisins and dried focaccia cake.

Tipping & Etiquette in Verona
Locals tend to tip much less than their UK counterparts, yet the custom of leaving a little extra after a meal is common practice, especially in establishments frequented by tourists. Many of these restaurants will already include a service charge of 10% so no further gratuity is necessary, although as usual is up to your discretion. Other tipping to consider would be for taxi journeys, which should be generally 5%, hotel staff and tour guides.

Disabled Access in Verona
Accessibility is surprisingly good in Verona considering its age and at street level it is reasonably flat and obstacle free. There are however many cobbled streets to negotiate which will make it arduous for lone wheelchair users. While there is a fairly good selection of hotels equipped for disabled use, many restaurants do not have interior access for wheelchairs although staff always seem to be able to improvise and provide space if requested. Adapted taxis and minivans are available for bookings through many hotels for one off journeys and daily charter.
